Movie Review – Udta Punjab a Mediocre Film that has Hype and no substance !

Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh-starrer “Udta Punjab,” which became a controversial subject, has opened to good reviews. Critics from the Gulf, where the movie got released on Thursday, praised “Udta Punjab” in their reviews.

Talking about the storyline, the critics have said that “Udta Punjab” is a must watch to educate ourselves about the drug problems. Critics also praised the performances of the lead actors – Shahid, Alia, Kareena and Diljit.

But it was far too fetched claims by the critics and the movie’s makers.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film was in the news after the censor board demanded over 90 cuts in the film. However, the Bombay High Court in its judgement cleared the film with only one cut.

Credit is due to Chaubey for taking a grim subject and making it interesting. There are dull moments in the second half, and the ending of the film also feels a bit abrupt. But how else could a film end when the battle against drugs is still on? Imagine a state with its first line of control has one third of its youth population addicted to substances. That’s more dangerous than terrorism.

Positives –Unleaesshing the issue of substance abuse in Punjab in quite a startling manner, Udta Punjab takes a gripping start. The stress on Punjab soon becoming another Mexico is quite validly portrayed.

Negatives -: The curse of the second half strikes for this film. Whatever engages you pre-interval, is outstretched into a fictional set up in the second half.

The makers the film depended only on the hype of the controversies that they had create themselves and had nothing new in the film in regard to the story line or the execution of the movie.Yet after all the publicity stunts that the  makers of the movie created, the movie by itself had no meaning or substance. For those who have lots of time to waste udta punjab is a must watch !
