Europe crosses 10,00,000 coronavirus postive cases -Total deaths at 98,582

Europe reaches grim milestone, surpasses 100,000 coronavirus deaths

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has counted a total 1,018,221 cases of coronavirus, more than any other continent, and a total of 98,582 deaths. The top five countries with the most cases are Spain, with 191,726, Italy, Germany, the U.K. and France. 

Italy leads Europe in deaths with 23,227, followed by Spain, France, the U.K. and Belgium. 

Worldwide, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has counted 2,281,714 cases and 159,511 deaths.  

The U.S. has documented 735,086 cases and 38,910 deaths, according to the centre. 

The virus is believed to have originated in China, leading the country to become the pandemic’s first hotspot. Asia has recorded 366,753 cases and 14,289 deaths overall. 

Within weeks, the coronavirus spread to Europe, with a rapid uptick in cases in Italy, specifically. The increase in cases led President Trump to ban travel from Europe in February, weeks after banning travel from China on Jan. 31.
